About the event

An Introduction to Sashiko Mending for Clothes

Discover the art of Sashiko, a beautiful Japanese hand-stitching tradition that transforms simple repairs into works of art with artist and teacher Alice Barsony. In this beginner-friendly class, you'll learn the foundational Sashiko stitches and techniques used to patch, mend, and extend the life of your favorite clothing. Using a simple running stitch, you'll create striking geometric patterns while exploring the creative possibilities of visible mending. Participants will practice on fabric patches and are encouraged to bring a garment in need of repair to personalize with their new skills. No sewing experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity and a desire to give old clothes new life!

When: Sat., Sept. 19th, 10am to Noon

Cost: $10.50

Ages: 16+

Supplies: All included, but encouraged to bring a piece of clothing that needs mending.
