Upcycling Hope: A Film About The Art SHAC
We’re excited to share Upcycling Hope, a short film about The Art SHAC created by the University of North Carolina School of the Arts student and filmmaker Bella Babich. Bella spent time getting to know Art SHAC and captured what makes our little creative reuse center so special—the materials, the people, and the endless possibilities that come from giving art supplies a second life.
Founded in Winston-Salem in 2022, Art SHAC began with a simple idea: what if art supplies that someone no longer needed could become an opportunity for someone else? Today, we help keep usable materials out of the landfill while making affordable art supplies accessible to artists, teachers, students, families, and makers throughout our community.To date we have diverted over 43.5 tons of art supplies and materials from the landfill.
Bella’s film beautifully captures something we experience every day: creative reuse isn’t just about materials—it’s about possibility. We’re grateful to Bella for telling our story and inviting others to see The Art SHAC through her eyes.
